COMPENSATION:

Compensation varies from project to project; some are volunteer opportunities and others are paid, with rates dependent on budget and experience. High schoolers in the Albemarle or Charlottesville public school systems may be able to earn work-based learning credit. Some projects count towards community service hours.

ELIGIBILITY:

Current high school or college students in the Charlottesville area are welcome to apply. These opportunities are for students with advanced video experience, either through Light House classes or independent work; beginners are encouraged to join us for workshops to build their skills! Students under 18 are allowed to join with permission from a parent or guardian.

HOW IT WORKS:

Fill out the freelancer application anytime! The application includes links to past work and a reference. Qualified applicants will be interviewed by Light House staff and, if approved, added to the freelancer database. Freelancers will get email invitations for upcoming projects matched to their skills and availability. Applicants who are not selected are welcome to reapply after 12 months.

Work is usually within the Charlottesville/Albemarle area but may involve some travel. Indicate the times you’re usually available in your application as schedules vary by project. Compensation, if applicable, will be by check after each project is completed.

If you have any questions about the application process or freelance work, please email Light House Education Director Zack Marotta at zack@lighthousestudio.org.
