charlotte cherry
Charlotte recently participated in the NSLIY program through the State Department to study Arabic in Morocco and will attend Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in hopes of pursuing international relief work or diplomacy. She recently travelled with a group of Charlottesville residents to Winneba, Ghana, our sister city, and documented the her journey in a film entitled Sisters by Choice. She also recently interned at Light House as an assistant mentor for their summer workshops.
In her words: “Light House has given me skills to enhance all the work I will do in the future and a medium in which to express my ideas and hopefully impact the way other people see the world. Light House has been a vital part of my high school experience and opened up doors I didn’t know were available.”
marco duran
Born in Mexico, Marco has been active in the Charlottesville film scene since his sophomore year of high school when he made his first short film, Mala Leche. He also collaborated on the popular film Any Sense in Cents?. Marco aspires to have a career in filmmaking as a director and has worked with local filmmaker Brian Wilmer. In his words: “My favorite thing about Light House is the variety of workshops and people involved. Light House helps kids learn and communicate in a healthy environment and is great for anyone really interested in film as a career. All of the people involved are really creative and they all have something to express to others.”
reid hildebrand
Reid attends Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT, hoping to double major in Film and East Asian Studies. Last year, he interned for two weeks under local filmmaker Eric Hurt before interning at Light House as a mentor this past summer. His animated short film, The Balloonist was chosen to screen before the opening night film of the 2011 Virginia Film Festival. You can see some his recent work on his Vimeo page.
In his words: “Light House, while also exposing me to the wonders of film production and art, has given me access to get to know and work with so many great people over the years, and that’s something I wouldn’t trade for anything else. I have made so many good friends and possible future connections throughout my years here.”
aidan keith-hynes
Aidan currently attends film school at Columbia College Hollywood, with hopes to become a film director. He also interned at Light House as an assistant mentor in 2011 and will return summer 2012 to assist again.
In his words: “Light House has been a great place to meet other youth filmmakers with similar interests. Before I joined Light House I only had a brief understanding of film, the workshops helped to show me all of the fundamentals of the equipment, as well as show me more of the artistic side of filmmaking.”
