Your contributions are important to our growth and success. 2011 was a great year for Light House. We:
- Increased the number of classes offered by 28% and students served by 22%;
- Collaborated with 18 nonprofit organizations and schools including new partnerships with Central Virginia Burn Camp and Ivy Creek School;
- Celebrated when student films were accepted into festivals across the United States and won top awards including a World Gold Medal at the New York International Festival (over 35 countries submitted films) and a CINE Gold Eagle (Steven Spielberg’s first award);
- Applauded when a Light House team was awarded the Adrenaline Jury Award from a field of 12 teams at the Virginia Film Festival;
- Congratulated graduating seniors who are now attending universities such as Wesleyan University, Johns Hopkins and Hollywood Film School; and
- Hosted a record number of attendees at our Youth Film Festival, our most successful festival to date.
The Virginia Commission of the Arts stated in a recent letter to us:
“Light House has grown in a meaningful way…. A point of pride in the community…. Successfully addressing issues regarding youth from all backgrounds…. Creating outstanding filmmakers…. The budget reflects meaningful growth…. Focuses on a part of art that we do not see anywhere else.”
In 2012, we will continue this work—offering young filmmakers a chance to collaborate with peers, see projects through to completion, defend their artistic ideas, and be honored for their achievements. Your gift to Light House makes all this possible. Please consider starting a tradition of giving to support our efforts.
